Remembering Senator Bob Dole...

There's no question Bob Dole was a fierce opponent. As a majority leader, he couldn't help but emitting views to rattle candidates of the opposing party. He often said the wrong thing. When confronted about it, Bob Dole would smile and shake his head as if to say: It was a mistake, I didn't really mean it. But, the damage was done, just like that, with good humor and civility.

Bob Dole, the majority leader, tried to sway public opinion with zingers like "There's no evidence linking the Republican party, the Committee to re-elect or anyone else, the White House or anyone in the White House for the so-called Watergate..." , July 16, 1972.

Senator Bob Dole was a World War II veteran officer. He was wounded on the battle field in Italy. He was a career politician, often referred to as the "Senator from Kansas". Senator Bob Dole was the recipient of a Purple Heart and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. R.I.P
