Since Wanament canal work started in Haiti's border with the Dominican Republic, there had been an uptick in armed military presence in the area...
Several incidents were reported that led to yesterday's weapons drawn on Haitian civilians at the Wanament border.
We estimate, the Dominican armed military patrols at Wanament's border are unwarranted and could be construed by Haitians as a form of provocation and intimidation. There is no need for such escalation.
From our perspective, it is still the poor pointing guns at each other. Dominicans are not rich and Haïti is not the poorest of the poor either. There's no need for violence and there's nothing worthwhile to take advantage of by force in either country.
Hope this message finds you in good spirits this morning. So, cool it down, gun slinging knuckleheads, and Third World Armies! Love, Peace and Brotherhood are the way to go for both countries...
