1956 : Haïti, un pays organisé...
Ce n'était pas de la propagande. L'évidence que certaines institutions fonctionnaient très bien en Haïti se trouve dans ce même petit feuillet imprimé que j'ai acheté pour moins de dix dollars US.
Si la cruauté d'Henri Christophe s'exprimait haut et fort dans l'article précédent, en contrepartie, nous avons retrouvé cette photo du Corps d'Aviation qui a remis les pendules à l'heure...
Quelques années plus tôt, Haïti venait à peine de célébrer son bi-centenaire. Cette grande foire Internationale a été tenue pour la première et dernière fois dans la Caraïbe.
En examinant la photo, il est évident que la statue de Jean-Jacques Dessalines faisait partie, au premier degré, du terrain qu'occupait le Corps d'Aviation au Pont Rouge. Et, le bureau du tourisme était fier d'afficher cette photo aux yeux du monde.
Je me suis dit, mais historiquement, il y a un antécédent... Le nom Cabane Choucoune m'a non seulement interpellé, mais surtout, celui de Jean Sassine me vint à l'esprit.
C'était lui, Jean Sassine, qui vendait un peu partout, yon Kabann anfè, du même nom, Choukounn, en 1956.
Le plat de résistance. La Compagnie Nationale des Chemins de Fer d'Haïti, cette institution, elle aussi fonctionnait et assurait le transport en commun.
Les usagers prenaient le train de la Station qui se situait au Port-au-Prince,-Champ-de-Mars-, cheminant vers le Nord du pays, et arrivaient jusqu'à Saint-Marc. De cette ville, ils montaient à bord d'un petit train qui assurait le trajet intérieur: Vallée de l'Artibonite jusqu'à Désarmes.
Les autres chemins de fer faisaient exclusivement le transport des marchandises.

1956: Henri Christophe’s judgement tree…
At first, I didn’t think the booklet was attractive enough to bring lots of tourists -the world over - to come visit Haiti. The Pan American Union outfit presented the above picture of a tree at King Christophe’s fortress’ courtyard where the latter allegedly summarily executed people.
Stories like that were never told. Imagine my stupefaction when I saw the above picture in the Pan American Union tourism pamphlet giving credit to Haiti’s tourism bureau for their contribution in making the publication possible…

Haiti: Le prolétariat en charge...
Ce sont de braves gens qui jurent de se battre jusqu’au bout! Leurs cris retentissant ont fait écho jusqu'au pas de ma porte. Je me sens obligé d’écrire quelques mots.
Il fallait s’attendre à cela. Cette vacance institutionnelle a engendré cet état de fait. L’usurpation du pouvoir a dominé la pensée au maintien du prolétariat haïtien dans un cycle vicieux d’assujettissement…
Si aujourd’hui le peuple haïtien veille sur sa famille c’est parce qu’il y a eue démission flagrante, collective, de la part de ceux qui sont rémunérés pour procurer ce service à la population.
Alors il leur a fallu retomber sur la force que produise l’unité d’action. L’histoire se souviendra de cet acte héroïque du peuple haïtien. Contrairement à ce qu’ont écrit des imbéciles, spéculant sur la lâcheté dés Noirs, Haïti a toujours eu raison sur ses dominateurs quels qu’ils soient…

Technology: Remembering the PDAs...
Technology that existed before the iPhone and the rest.
I pulled this one literally right out of Technology's graveyard. The Personal Digital Assistant became ubiquitous in the mid to late 1990s. The professional as well as the general population had finally said goodbye to the Rolodex. You could read an eBook, work on a PowerPoint presentation and send that presentation electronically to your client before your plane lands at the airport.
In my career as an entrepreneur, I produced and distributed eBooks for PDAs in the Dotlit format. Then came the Amazon Kindle and Mobipocket. And the dream was crushed before it begins... It was important to regroup, rethink, and innovate to survive the onslaught.
