The fall of Haiti’s tourism…

This picture is from a book cover I feel privileged to
purchase online. The booklet was printed in 1956 by Borland, in cooperation with Pan American Airways and Haiti’s tourism bureau in Port-au-Prince.

We were told never to judge a book by its cover. But back in the 50s Haiti’s selling point was not only the natural beauty of its people but again the breathtaking appeal of the whole country. Haiti was dubbed the Queen of the West Indies, a Flower and Vegetable Basket and the Switzerland of the Caribbean…

Fast forward more than 50 years after. The office of tourism is dysfunctional, American Airways turned into American Airlines folks from Texas… besides today’s piracy, not a decent airport, stadium or a movie theater worthy of the name…

Greed, division and self destruction are pushing another generation out of the country and into the unknown.
