600 young men graduated at Morehouse College...

Morehouse College is essentially an African-American run institution where young men of color are given the tools to succeed irrespective of race, religion and national origin. I attended the 2021 commencement ceremony which gave me more satisfaction  and perspective than expected.

Four years ago, I attended student registration at Morehouse College because of my son Jon Anthony MARTHONE. We were told "these young men will look on their right and left sides, front and back and see people that looked like them. They won't have to worry about being themselves. We will turn them into Morehouse men."

I was particularly touched by the young man of Haitian descent whom I did not know attended Morehouse College at the same time with my son. You proudly displayed your Haitian heritage during the graduation ceremony and represented an entire nation very well! Congratulations to you and your family!

On the other hand, Jon Anthony's demonstration was more subtle and personal. The yellow tie he wore at graduation was a gift from his Haitian grandfather.

What I took from the experience, were not only the words of the awesome commencement speaker, but  again I felt a deep sense of connection. I could only imagine for a moment, what these young men were a part of while subjugated to a disciplined life with emphasis on community, brotherhood and the continuing legacy of Morehouse College excellence.

600 young African-American men graduated at Morehouse College yesterday. That event could be a world record. I am hopeful to see a time where the graduation rate exceeds the amount of incarceration or the killing of these young black men...

Congratulations, to my son, Jon Anthony MARTHONE, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and the entire graduating classes of 2020 and 2021. You made all of us proud!
