First Day at the U.N…

Although today’s session at the U.N continues, one couldn’t help but thinking how the tone had changed from a year ago. The anger and the willingness to evoke or denounce dissatisfaction with current events is not quite demonstrated on the podium.

0900 The U.N Secretary general, Mr. António Guterres and the first woman elected to preside over the 80th. session, gave rousing speeches that were intermittently interrupted by applause.

Shortly after, Madame secretary, opened the floor for general debates.

At the exception of Brazil’s president whose speech was similar to a lecture in Democratic principles, everyone else stuck to their prepared statements.

The Uruguayan president was a closed second.

President Trump was surprisingly witty and funny today. While speaking about his unfortunate historical experiences with the U.N, from competitive bidding as a junior Real Estate Developer, on the building contract... - he noticed the lack of marble flooring and mahogany doors -, to being stuck at the UN elevator with his wife and the teleprompter malfunction...who, at the U.N tried to scare the heck out of the President and his wife?

King Abdullah of Jordan appeared frustrated for having to deal with the same issues over and over again.

Portugal’s president read his prepared statement masterfully and made a few off the cuffs remarks about how his country is engaged in world affairs on all continents.

Peru's president spoke about the attempted coup-d'Etat against the government, and the triumph of Democracy over anarchy.

Surinam's president took a moment to salute the Haitian people. She showcased her country's achievements on forest conservation and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for year 2030.
